Christmas in Sao Paulo – Oh Yes, Please!

We’re big fans of travel, but we get even more excited when it’s time to talk about cities that might not always get the first ink. We’re talking about thinking about Reno instead of Las Vegas, of Aberdeen instead of Glasgow, and of Florence instead of Rome. There are plenty of cities that might not get your attention at first but trust us — they’re worth falling in love with.

The winter months are terrible, but you might remember from geography class that the Southern Hemisphere enjoys summer at the time where most of us in the Northern Hemisphere sludge through winter. So if you really want a great experience, it’s going to need to be traveling south for the winter, like the birds do.

But you definitely want to think about Brazil, as you begin planning. Rio de Janiero is the first city that pops into mind for a lot of people, but it’s certainly not the only thing that Brazil has to offer. It’s time to think about Sao Paulo, or Sampa as it’s affectionately called.

Christmas in Sao Paulo

Why are we crazy about Sampa right now? Because it’s big. Really big. Huge. Like, 11 million people huge. And that’s the core city — if we go by metro stats it’s nearly 20 million. With so many people, you know that there are plenty of things to do. The food, the nightlife, the shopping… Sampa attracts a lot of people from all over the world. The people are warm and friendly and laid back, which are all great characteristics for a city.

Getting into the city is easy by plane. There’s a large airport to accommodate flights, and finding transportation is easy. For a city like Sao Paulo, we definitely recommend that you stick to public transportation. The traffic is absolutely insane and tourists can find themselves very frustrated with the local residents of the city. They know the traffic pattern; you don’t. Why put yourself through stress if you don’t have to. There are plenty of options when it comes to public transportation, so don’t try to skip over them. They are quite important indeed. Be prepared for delays though — with so many people, it goes without saying that things can be pretty complicated!

If you go nowhere else, you have to go to Paulista Avenue within the city. This is really the heart and soul of the area, which plenty of shops, art galleries, theaters, movie theaters, and even pubs and coffee shops. Bookstores, hotels, and gourmet restaurants also reign supreme here. If you want to figure out a great place for your accommodations, it’s probably going to be somewhere around Paulista Avenue.

The shopping options are just right in the city — you will find plenty of great deals if you look around. Specific interests are catered to in the city, and can you blame anyone? Most business owners will eventually get a profit if they work hard enough here in the city.

There are plenty of food options in Sao Paulo to choose from — trust us, you are definitely not going to be hurting for options. It’s just a matter of thinking what you want to eat. There are a few restaurants that are catering to tourist tastes, but if you really want to say that you experienced the best that the city has to offer, it’s all about going to get authentic Brazilian cuisine done Sao Paulo style. There are brown beans and rice, as well as rice, collard greens, and pork chops. Pork is definitely a local staple, and you’ll see plenty of it. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t find a good steakhouse hiding out there!

Like with food, you’re going to find a lot of options on sleeping accommodations. Of course, with so much to offer, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll do a lot of sleeping. Now is just the right time to really make sure that you get everything in order when it’s time to get your trip underway.

Since this is still a popular destination (though not as popular as Rio), you want to book in advance. Last minute trips can be done, but why put yourself under stress you don’t need. Just don’t forget your travel insurance and you’ll be just fine — try it out for yourself!

Luxury Holidays In the Seychelles are Right At Your Fingertips!

These days in the travel world, we’re so focused on budget travel that we’ve forgotten how fun luxury can really be. If you want to get your luxury tastes satisfied, you can’t just pick a destination at random. Indeed, you will need to find a destination that really understands what it means to offer luxury accommodations and entertainment.

Luxury holidays in the Seychelles are perfect for the real luxury hound that wants to experience the best that life has to offer. There’s nothing wrong with going with budget offerings but the truth of the matter is that there is going to come a time where you really do want something a little more luxurious. Why not reward yourself for all of your hard work? If you don’t take time to give yourself little treats along the road of life, you’ll start feeling resentful that you work so hard and yet receive so very little in return. What would be the point of that line of thinking, anyway?

Holidays In the Seychelles

Back to the Seychelles. When it comes to luxury holidays in the Seychelles, you actually have a lot of different ways to build your vacation. You don’t have to settle for just anything, either — this is a luxury vacation, you know!

So let’s start with the accommodations. When you’ve got a luxury budget, why not go with a premium hotel? Five star hotels give you the best of everything with very few features spared. One hotel that immediately springs to mind is the Constance Lemuria Resort. It is truly a 5 star experience right when you walk into the door. There are not only traditional hotel rooms, but private villas that overlook the stunning beauty of the beach. You’ll be able to experience true Indian Ocean luxury, that’s for sure!

Everything you can think of is contained right there on the resort property. If you wanted to get some fine dining in while you’re on holiday, you can always go to one of the many restaurants featured at the resort. High quality food and amazing atmosphere are just part of the overall experience.

You should definitely save time to hit the spa if you really want to round out your high end experience in a big way. Think about it — are you really going to be able to spoil and pamper yourself like this at home?

Even if you don’t choose a high end resort like the Lemuria, there are other ways to form great luxury holidays to the Seychelles. There are numerous packages that bundle great accommodations and top notch activities with affordable pricing — why not check it out for yourself?

Duty Free Shops – A Great Way to Save

International travel is something that definitely has its pluses and minuses, but when it comes to duty free shopping, it’s all positive from here! This is because duty free shops give you a great way to save on those pesky fees imposed by customs on certain items. If you’ve ever visited a country and wanted to bring something back for your loved ones, this is definitely the best way to go. Even though you might feel like you won’t find anything interesting and anything worth saving, you might actually be surprised at what you’ll find. There’s nothing wrong with making sure that you have a good way to get all of your shopping taken care of.

As you might imagine, a duty free shop simply carries great goods at great prices, without you having to worry about paying duties on the goods when you go back into your host country. However, even though there are so many benefits to duty free shopping, you will also need to make sure that you’re aware of the drawbacks and warnings around duty-free shopping as well.

duty free shopping

First and foremost, you should make sure that you’re aware of the limits involved with duty free shopping. You don’t want to get all excited about duty free shopping, only to find that you will not be able to get something for everyone on your list. Instead of trying to figure out a general limit for all of the duty free shops you find, you’ll be pleased to know that the limits are usually posted. If you’re ever in doubt, it’s better to ask before you buy anything than to end up spending hundreds of dollars — only to find that you’ll also be spending a great deal on shipping and duty taxes paid to Customs.

Don’t forget that you will need to also look at the space that you have available in your luggage case — you don’t want to try to figure out where you’re going to put everything, or have to shell out extra money just to fit everything into suitcases to take on the plane with you. Most airplanes have a weight limit for each passenger, with fees imposed for going over that weight limit.

So, does this mean that you won’t get any value from going to a duty free shop? That’s not what’s being said here at all. In fact, if you really think carefully about getting the best deal possible on your gifts to take home, you should have no problem finding a good duty free shop close by — why not look today?

Should You Take Advantage of the Mini-Bar in Your Hotel Room?

A hotel room definitely has a lot of amenities contained within the room, but the smart traveler will evaluate everything before they actually use anything in the room. For example, you might have a mini-bar in your hotel room that actually has bottles of water and even alcohol right there for you to drink and enjoy. However, these perks don’t come for free — the mini-bar is often far more expensive than going down to a cafe or convenience store and picking up what you actually want to eat and drink.

However, is this really a bad thing? A closer look is necessary in order to determine whether or not you really will be making the wrong decision. You see, a min-bar isn’t an inherently bad thing. Hotels put it in not to just make reckless profits, but to really provide a service that some travelers like to have.

Mini-Bar Hotel Room

The mini-bar is much more convenient than walking down to a vending machine, and you don’t even have to have cash handy right then and there. If you do decide to take advantage of the mini-bar section of your hotel room, it will be on your bill when you check out. If you already know that you will have plenty of extra money to cover your purchases at the mini-bar, then you might want to indulge lightly.

The key word there is lightly — the mini-bar can seem really tempting, but it’s important to make sure that you know what the price of everything you take actually is. If you have to call down to the front desk and ask, don’t be afraid to ask and get something in writing that actually says how much the things in the mini-bar cost. Don’t just settle for someone telling you how much things cost — they could not remember the price correctly, but it will be you that has to pay that final bill at the end of your stay.

If you’re on a tight budget, you might want to avoid the mini-bar altogether. Again, it’s just a convenience measure in the room, and it’s one that you don’t have to ultimately take advantage of if you don’t want to. You might want to save that money for a dinner at a nice restaurant where you can usually get unlimited drinks.

Overall, getting into the mini-bar in your hotel room is ultimately up to you — but now that you have a little more information, you can make the choice for yourself.

Overcoming The Fear of Flying

In the past, most people could simply walk down the street if they wanted to see their friends and family. However, as life forces us to move further and further from family and friends, the only way to efficiently visit them is often through taking a plane. If you’re afraid of flying, this makes for a very challenging problem. Failure to overcome your fear of flying means that you will have to give up the chance of seeing family and friends, something few people are willing to actually do. After all, family and friends are an important piece of what makes us human, and being disconnected from them is downright painful.

Finding the inner strength to overcome this fear is not easy, but it can be done. If you’re ready to take the steps to overcoming your fear, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

First, you might want to try writing down your feelings around taking the plane. What feelings come to mind as you think about taking a plane to see a friend? Is there a reason or an experience around your fear of flying? Many people often find that the reason why they don’t want to fly is centered around a bad experience they had on a previous flight, or a bad experience someone else had. If you can get down to the root of your fear, it’ll be easier to slowly overcome it.
