International Backpacking – Is It Worth the Risks?

Some people love luxury vacations, and we definitely salute them. Indeed it’s all about being able to go on a vacation that’s really going to meet your needs. The last thing that anyone would want is to tell you that you have to take a certain vacation. We write about just about every type of vacation that you can think of on purpose. We really want you to feel like there’s nothing stopping you from building the very best vacation that’s going to make you happy. That’s the true reason why we spend so much time writing about multiple types of vacations. However, there comes a point where we realize that we might have even more ground to cover.

The very nature of travel means that things will change from time to time. It’s just about going with the flow and finding new things to love.

So today, it’s really all about international backpacking. You know the type of trip we’re talking about — where it’s about the journey and making do with what you have in order to get the things that you want accomplished. This isn’t a type of trip for people that are used to luxury and want no expense spared. It’s for people that want to get back to simpler time where you could indeed see the world with just a backpack, some clothes, and a sense of adventure.

International Backpacking

One type of backpacking trip that’s growing in terms of popularity is the international backpacking scene. It’s really all about being able to get out there and explore the world around you just with your backpack — but can you do it in another country?

First and foremost, you will need to make sure that you actually take the time to get your legal stuff worked out. You want to make sure that if you really do decide to go to another country, that you actually have the ability to roam around. Even though you might be backpacking, you still want to make sure that you have the right papers. Make sure that your quest visas early. No matter how soon they tell you that the expedited forms can be sent off, they are never set to come back during a certain time. You’re a lot better off baking as much time as possible into your planning — it’s the easier way to avoid a lot of costs to begin with.

You will also need to think carefully of the country that you want to explore. It’s a sad thing to admit, but not all countries are created equal. It’s going to be a lot harder to backpack across Saudi Arabia, a country well known for being cautious on what tourists see and what they don’t see. It’s also a very expensive country to move around in. Compare this to say, Malaysia or even Indonesia, where you can indeed backpack to your heart’s content.

But what of safety? Surely if you’re on your own with nothing but a backpack and a rudimentary guide that you would be in harm’s way all the time, right? Wrong. A lot of people can pick tourists out very easily, and they definitely want to help more than they want to actually hurt you. The last thing that you should assume that you are always in danger. On the other hand, you don’t want to blindly take anyone’s word on everything that you hear when you get to the host country. If a deal is too good to be true, it still probably is. Never take gifts from people that you don’t know. Some countries are well known for drug smuggling operations, and you can get pulled into something that you really don’t want to be in.

Truly, the best advice is not to be on your own. Why not form a group of international backpackers and go in a whole team rather than just assume that you have to ride solo. That’s the better way to really make sure that you get the experience that you’re ultimately looking for.

At the end of the day, every vacation is truly what you make of it. If you want to go on an international backpacking trip, then it’s worth your while to check into it more. However, if you find that you really don’t want to be bothered with that type of thing, avoid it. There’s no law that says you have to like the things that everyone else likes. Many people would rather have a hot shower and a warm place to sleep rather than having to scramble for those things. What will you choose — remember, it’s all about what you want! Get out there and make a decision today!
