Ready to Travel Cheap – Get A Good Backpack

OK, we wrote so much about luxury travel that some of our budget travelers asked us to talk about something related to backpacking. After all, the idea of having to spend a lot of money to go on vacation and see the world just doesn’t hold anymore water anymore. It’s all about being able to have a good time and really get experiences that will create long-lasting memories — long enough to last a lifetime. We really want to make sure that you’re having a good time from start to finish on your backpacking trip, but all of that starts with a good travel backpack. There are plenty of different backpacks out there, and the right one for you will naturally depend on the purpose that you have for the backpack. You don’t want to try to wait till the last minute to actually get a good backpack. It’s something that you might want to order as early as possible so that you can pack everything in advance.

One thing that tends to frustrate people is that packing for a backpacking trip means that you’re going to actually have to make some pretty tough choices. You’re not going to be able to just pack anything that you want. You’re going to actually have to start thinking about everything in terms of importance. Remember that if you leave something out, it’s goings to be costly to actually buy it on your trip. In fact, many backpackers often go places that aren’t as well stocked as they might be used to, and that tends to make things rather interesting in the long run.

Don’t worry; you can still get a good backpack. Unless you’re going to travel in areas where you’ll be camping, you’ll want to make sure that you actually get an internal frame model. An external frame model is great when you need to clip additional stuff onto it, but if you’re not looking for something like that then you should definitely make sure that you focus more on the type of space you have to work with. Remember that the bigger backpacks are going to allow you to carry more stuff but that comes at the cost of weight. You are going to have to also think about weight in terms of not just how much you can handle carrying for long periods of time, but you’re going to need to also think about the type of weight you’re allowed to carry onto the plane if you will be doing international backpacking or even backpacking in another state. Anytime that you travel by plane you must consider weight before anything else. Otherwise you’ll end up running into the problem of either not being able to carry everything with you, or having to pay a massive surcharge just to get your luggage on the plane. That can be problematic in many ways.

Since we’re on the subject of air travel, you will also need to make sure that you actually follow the air travel regulations as far as what’s allowed to come with you and what isn’t. Liquids will need to be carefully measured. If you are over the limit, those items will be confiscated and discarded. There’s no reason in the world to go through this when all it takes is a little planning!

Durability is also going to matter a great deal. You really want to make sure that you’re looking at the way your backpack of choice is actually constructed. It can be tempting to just assume that everything is going to be just fine, but you definitely want to look around. Go to an outdoor store if you really want, but you can also read reviews online on places like Amazon to make sure that you’re really getting the best backpack for your money.  Yes, you are going to want to invest some money into this — this isn’t a school backpack, you know!

The form factor that you choose will play a role. Some backpackers really like side loading bags, because they have a bit more choice in how they get stuff out of it. If you’re the type of person that can load items in sequence, then you might want to actually think about a top loading bag. Some people like them, some people don’t. If you’re really not sure you can always read reviews on the matter and then make your own decisions. That’s also the nice part about ordering online — if you find that you really don’t like the backpack, you can always return it and try another one.

Don’t forget to look for a backpack that’s going to let you display identification tags and other important information. You want to make sure that your backpack can be returned to you if it’s lost, and you also want someone to be able to identify you if you collapse with your backpack on. It’s a tough thing to think about, but it’s absolutely something that you’re going to have to plan for and just hope it never happens. At least you’ll be properly prepared, right? This is also the case for security — nobody wants to imagine that someone would try to break into their backpack, but it can indeed happen.

If you want to drive into town to try on different backpacks but buy online, you can definitely do that too. This will give you the most options in terms of being able to move around freely with the backpack, but going online will give you the savings that you’re looking for. It’s just really tough for offline stores to compete with the online businesses.

This is also a purchase that really needs to be done as a new purchase rather than buying used equipment. You just don’t know what type of strain has been on that backpack, and do you really want to deal with the possibility of a failure when you least expect it?
