Although the vast majority of the best beaches are in Florida and Hawaii, these two states do not hold a monopoly on great beaches. There are a couple of other states that have some outstanding ocean views and activities. Many of the best beaches require a drive and, of course, you should always take some sunscreen. Named the best US beach in 2008, Caladesi Island State Park Beach is a beautiful beach just west of Tampa, Florida. The closest city is Dunedin. As a state park, this beach is made for those who are very active. If you want to spend your time on land, there is a nature trail and marina to keep you moving. Water sports including various types of boating or rowing, fishing, and shelling. Wind down at one of the picnic pavilions or in the bathhouse.

Hanalei Bay took second beach in 2008. Located in Hawaii on Kauai isle, this marvelous beach presents the paradise, crystal-clear water that seems unreal. Cut loose and dive in for some sailing, snorkeling, or swimming. If you get bored on the 3 kms of gorgeous beach, try out the Princeville Makai Golf Course with its unrivaled view of the bay and Pacific.

Siesta Beach, Florida may sound like a snooze, but it is one of the most relaxing breaks you will, and one of the best views when you wake. Located on the Siesta Key, this beach is nearly pure white because of the sands’ composition. To make sure you are tired enough to sleep, spend some time on the volleyball course and barbeque your own feast on the beach.

Although not top of the list for US beaches, Coopers Beach is the top beach in New York. Located on Long Island near Southampton, it is an easy drive from New York City. It is advisable to visit this beach during warmer weather, but it is gorgeous near round for the more robust or hardy traveler. During the colder months, follow up the beach visit with a trip around Shouthmapton, New York’s first settlement.

Coronado Beach, California is a beautiful beach situation on the peninsula near San Diego. The pinnacle of a steady stream of beaches down the peninsula, this beach is great for a family trip, including pets.

Hamoa Beach, Hawaii is on the east coast of Maui, near Hana. The beach is more secluded and surrounded by tropical forests and scenic cliffs. Visit Haleakala National Park to shake up the endless days on the beach.
Nearby is Kailua Beach, the winner of the 1998 US beaches. Roughly 25 kms from Honolulu, this beach is great for swimming or wind surfing.

Gay Head Beach, Massachusetts is the second New England beach on the list. Near Martha’s Vineyard, Gay Head Beach provides a nice contrast to the nearby surroundings. Ranked the top beach for strolls because of the marvelous view and hard sand, it is easy to get your exercise and not feel like it was work. There are even a couple of roped beaches for those interested in nude beaches.

A few states north takes you to Jasper Beach, Maine. The best wild beach in the US, this location is more remote and less crowded. For people wanting to get out in nature, this is the perfect beach. However, the lack of lifeguards makes swimming a poor choice. Best to stick to enjoying the beauty of nature here.

East Hampton Beach, New York was the winner in 2008 for most romantic and best nightlife. Further north than Coopers Beach, this beach has a lot of natural appeal. It is the perfect spot for some moonlit strolls and sunny afternoon picnics.
