The Alps are a winter sport paradise. Activities like snowboarding, skiing, and ice skating make the Alps one of the world’s most popular winter vacation destinations. Most people in America are accustomed to hearing the phrase the “Swiss Alps” when, in reality, the Alps are a mountain range that spreads across Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. There’s something for everyone in the Alps. So, whether you’re booking a family vacation or an extreme sports cavalcade, the Alps are the perfect destination.
Family Friendly Destinations
There are a lot of places in the Alps that are designed specifically for families to enjoy. These resorts offer unforgettable activities such as horse drawn sleigh rides, snowboarding, and skiing down trails designed for children and families. All family oriented resorts offer some kind of skiing lessons both for kids and for parents. Night skiing is also featured at some resorts on at least a part time basis.
Parents can relax after a full day of activities in a Jacuzzi or sauna. While parent unwind, kids can continue to burn energy by attending any of the numerous special activities or play areas designed just for them. Most family resorts also offer child care services, so parents can escape to an evening alone. Technology services can be hit and miss in some resorts. Not all of them offer internet or video games. But, that’s okay. You didn’t travel to the Alps to play Nintendo anyway.
You’ll find that a lot of the family oriented resorts are located in the small, quaint villages along the mountain range. You are welcome to leave the resort and experience the local culture and dining, or feel free to enjoy the exquisite cuisine in the hotel restaurants.
Destination for Singles
In addition to the family resorts, there are destinations designed with singles in mind. These places focus more on the snow sports by offering more challenging runs. Most singles resorts are located by glaciers and have specially designed pipes built into them to allow summer snowboarding.
Resorts that cater to singles and young couples tend to be a bit more technologically sophisticated than their family resort counterparts. Internet access is widely available, and the entertainment caters to a younger, more party enthusiastic crowd. Bars, lounges, and dance clubs pepper the night life.
Dedicated adventurers can take part in any of the mountain climbing activities. There are daily climbs or multi-day treks available for booking. The more difficult climbs require hut to hut routes. Because the huts are equipped with everything you need for a good night’s sleep you won’t need to haul a heavy backpack full of camping gear.
